Pigeon Breeding

Collecting rare pigeons is hobby for some and some takes it as a business. But there are always a lot of people who collects and loves pigeon. This post is for those who are new in this hobby and wants to know a bit more before going for the big start.
The most important part of pigeon breeding is to love your birds and trying to read their minds by judging their movement and attitude. When you love your birds you will definitely take better care of your birds and as a result you will get better outcome from your birds. If this is just a hobby to you, you will get more satisfaction from it and if it is your business you will certainly do more business if you take proper care of your birds. So my first suggestion is to love your birds. If you are doing something, do it completely don’t keep anything half done. Put some efforts and do what you can.
When you are determined to have a few pigeons in your loft, get your loft prepared. Get some cages or build home for your birds at first. Don’t try to collect the birds first. There are plenty of awesome birds that everyone can manage but there is few people having a nice loft and training facilities. Make sure that the size of your cages and pigeon houses are perfect for the birds that you will be collecting. Don’t be a miser while doing this, because cages and houses are really important for your pigeons. If you don’t give them perfect home they won’t give you perfect result. Another issue is you can easily change the pigeons in your loft but it is really difficult to change the settings and cages you have. Keep your cages and pigeon in a way that you can clean them easily and you can reach them when needed. Ensure the proper privacy for your breeds. So my second suggestion is to be careful while preparing your loft and cages.
When you are done with the loft building, go to your local market and talk to a few renowned pigeon breeders. Try to know the signs of a good bird. Try to find out the demand and supply of different types of pigeons. Then take the decision that which type of birds you are going to collect and with these birds what is your plan. You will need different types of birds for breeding and racing. When you are determined about what to collect, then go for it. Collect birds from lofts and markets. My third suggestion is to learn before you purchase and don’t learn after purchasing. Take your time for this as this is really important. The quality of birds is the most important issue for pigeon breeding.
When you have the pigeons make sure that you are giving them the perfect environment and sufficient and proper food. Do not disturb them every now and then. Wait till they get used to with the environment and food that you are providing in your loft. Here comes my fourth suggestion, wait till the birds are set in your loft.
When the birds are set in your loft try to train them. Let them know you and know your face. Love your birds and train them to love you. Take proper care of your birds and train them in a way that they realize you are taking care of them. Train them to trust you. During this period I cannot suggest you anything. You have to use your own ways to do this. This part is really important. A great coach can win a trophy even with the dullest team. In your loft you are the one acting as a coach. Your birds will learn things that you will teach them. This is something that makes a loft unique.
When all these are completed try to save some money to increase the size of your loft and go for more rare, costly and unique birds. This is the time you will enjoy more. Hope this article will be helpful for the beginners. I will try to write more about pigeons later so keep in touch. And don’t forget to thank Aladin when you have wonderful loft… J
